In recent years, Kremmling has taken significant steps to enhance road safety and protect local wildlife through the construction of a dedicated wildlife overpass. This initiative has led to a remarkable reduction in wildlife-vehicle collisions, decreasing such incidents by over 90%.
The success of Kremmling’s overpass has garnered attention across Colorado, serving as a model for other communities. State Speaker of the House Julie McCluskie highlighted this achievement, stating, “The success of the Kremmling wildlife crossing has made it clear that wildlife crossings help prevent dangerous accidents.”
Inspired by Kremmling’s example, the Roaring Fork Valley is now exploring similar projects. Roaring Fork Safe Passages, a local nonprofit, has secured funding for feasibility studies on proposed wildlife crossings in their region. These efforts aim to replicate Kremmling’s success in reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions and enhancing public safety.
As these initiatives progress, Kremmling’s proactive approach continues to serve as a beacon for communities striving to balance infrastructure development with environmental conservation.
